Here’s your ultimate 10-day itinerary that packs in the best of the Evergreen State—from ferry rides to fjords, hot springs to hikes that will leave you breathless.
The Basics: This itinerary requires a fair amount of driving, as it covers roughly 750+ miles roundtrip. This itinerary could easily be extended to 14 days if you really want to explore the destinations. If you want a shorter trip, consider skipping the North Cascades and Leavenworth.

The Ultimate Washington Road Trip
Day 1: Seattle
Welcome to the Emerald City, where coffee is a craft, the views are epic, and there’s always something abuzz. Seattle is the perfect urban launchpad for your Washington adventure. Here you can expect iconic landmarks, thriving food scenes, and pockets of green that make it feel more nature-meets-city than concrete jungle.
What to Do:
Pike Place Market, Underground Tour, Chihuly Garden and Glass, and a caffeine-fueled coffee crawl. The Space Needle if you really want to get touristy.
Where to Hike:
Discovery Park for coastal trails.
Where to Stay:

Day 2-3: San Juan Island
A short ferry ride from the small town of Anacortes (about 80 miles north of Seattle) transports you to island time. San Juan Island is a dreamy mix of rocky shores, serene pastures, and charming town vibes. You’ll find a laid-back pace perfect whale watching and lavender-filled wanderings. Day 4-5: North Cascades National Park
