Over in Bingen, The Society Hotel rises up like a beacon along the steady-flowing Columbia River. At first glance, you may think the establishment is new, but far from it–sort of. The hotel was built on the site of an 80-year-old school. Instead of knocking down the original structure, the owners decided to renovate the building and turn it into the popular destination it is today.
We first visited The Society Hotel on a chilly fall weekend, and soaking together in the outdoor hot tubs with the Columbia River Gorge views was pure magic. It felt like a spa retreat without losing the cozy, boutique charm — perfect for reconnecting and unwinding.
You can find accommodation options ranging from cheap, hostel-style dorm rooms to private cabins. All guests can make use of the community building, which contains a spa, café, and massage rooms–sounds nice, right? My snowy foray into the hobbit life was made infinitely better at this stay in Central Washington, not far from Leavenworth. The Hobbit House is an amazing adventure if you truly want to unplug. I enjoyed a cozy retreat tucked underground at the end of a rural road, high atop a mountain. Far enough away from civilization to unwind, yet close enough when all I really wanted a good latte.
You will be greeted with a cozy bed paired with a warming fireplace. While there is a full bath, there is no kitchen (as of this writing) so you’ll need to bring your own camp stove to prepare your grub and grog. They are currently building a separate kitchen a few steps down the road, so stay tuned!

My stay at Palihotel in Seattle felt like being on a Wes Anderson film set. The hotel, from the lobby to the rooms, is painted in shades of cyan and decorated with quirky, vintage furniture. Everything about it has taste, but the flavors don’t stop in the lobby and rooms.
I had breakfast and lunch at The Hart and The Hunter, a Los Angeles-established diner. The on-site restaurant serves classic breakfast dishes, tasty burgers, salads, and more. There’s need to take a taxi downtown to explore the city because Palihotel is located right in the heart of Seattle.
It was the perfect balance of city buzz and intimate retreat — especially for couples that loves both adventure and downtime.

When we stayed in the Methow Valley, the best part was waking up to the stillness of the mountains with coffee in hand and nothing but deer wandering nearby. The huts felt like our own little minimalist hideaway — simple, but exactly what we needed to disconnect and focus on each other.

It first opened in 1914, and guests flocked in to experience the ritzy glamor and excellent service. Almost 90 years later, after the building was in danger of being demolished, the hotel was renovated back into the enchanting place it once was.
