Be a Sophisticated Kid at the Klickitat Treehouse

The Columbia River Gorge is an outdoor enthusiast’s playground. But most people only traverse the Oregon side. What is lesser known is all of the wonderful things that can be discovered on the Washington side

…like fantastic treehouses.

The Klickitat Treehouse hits that sweet spot in between being a kid again (sleeping in a treehouse) and satisfying the very adult craving of luxurious accommodations. The exterior does not look rustic, rather, it is a modern structure that fits in surprisingly well, tucked into the trees surrounding it.

Once inside, the interior design looks as though it could leap out from the pages of Architectural Digest at any moment. The space offers clean lines and a very modern approach to “roughing it.” Here you will find the best glamping in Washington State.

No “Roughing It” Here

All of the amenities are here: a fully stocked kitchen, full bathroom, living area, a bedroom with a door leading to the deck, and a loft with two additional beds (complete with skylights).

The space fits up to six people comfortably. The wrap-around deck offers additional space to move, with an outdoor dining table, a couple of hand-crafted wood patio chairs, and a gas grill.

And the shining star of this beautiful retreat? An outdoor shower with enough privacy that only the trees will see you naked.

Be a Kid Again in Klickitat House

Of all of the cool Airbnbs in Washington state, this one stands apart from the rest. Klickitat House. As one of the best treehouse rentals in Washington State, it is also one of the most unique places to stay in the Pacific Northwest.

Prepare to truly unwind here. No WiFi is offered, and really, why would you want it? This place is for disconnecting and relaxing. Even your cell phone is going to have a problem picking up a signal, and that was fine with me. But if you really need to make that call or text, simply drive three minutes towards town and you can connect again.

But try not to – this is YOUR time.

As we dined outside on the deck that evening, the view to the north held wispy clouds, casting a tiny shadow over Mt. Adams in full view. With the daylight slowly dissipating, it created long, mysterious shadows into the forest – breathtaking.

It was so nice to just sit out on the deck as the sun went down, sipping after-dinner drinks. Utterly peaceful. Being from Portland, it was a welcome respite from the busyness we’re so used to.

The Cedar Shack

While the treehouse is in a remote location, there is another tiny house a few yards away, called The Cedar Shack. It is a separate rental that can accommodate other people in your party if you have a larger group. Separated by trees, you won’t even know it’s there. The only common spaces between the two are a lovely bench that looks out over the valley and Mt. Adams.

If you want to explore the area around the treehouse, there are a couple of short trails if you want a bit of exercise. And the treehouse itself is stocked with games and puzzles, making for the coziest of getaways on a rainy day.

The Klickitat Treehouse is located just north of White Salmon, Washington. A cute little town that embodies small-town America, with several restaurants, bars, and shops – and also a couple of grocery stores to load up on supplies for your treehouse adventure.

Unique vacation rentals in Washington are fast gaining in popularity. So if you’re looking for a treehouse rental in Washington, go here to book the Klickitat treehouse.
